Horsham Matters, Meeting Needs and Improving Lives
Horsham Matters has been running foodbanks for 11 years, providing for those in crisis right across the Horsham District, but when the pandemic hit its services were in demand like never before.

Those from all walks of life suddenly found they were unable to feed themselves or their families, and the number of people that Horsham Matters provides for, rose almost threefold, leaping from 2,900 in 2019 to 8,506 in 2020. On top of this, the charity stepped in to provide food parcels for children and their families during school holidays, when free school meals were no longer an option.
Even now that lockdown has ended the number of families finding themselves in need of emergency food remains high and the charity is continuing to feed children living in hardship across the school holidays, looking after 170 families each week across this summer alone.
The charity operates six Trussell Trust foodbanks in central Horsham, including a supermarket-style foodbank on Saturdays and Thursday evenings, and this year launched the Hub on the Move, a mobile food bank reaching the more outlying areas of the district, giving equal access to support to everyone who is in crisis, regardless of where in our area they live.
The service visits communities including Billingshurst, Broadbridge Heath, Southwater, Steyning, Storrington and Pulborough and alongside the Foodbank sessions offer a range of services including budgeting advice and debt advice, supporting clients to address the root cause of their challenges and work towards a hunger-free future.
Horsham Matters is working tirelessly to meet the needs of those in crisis, relying on public donations and a small number of grants, but its fundraising has been hit hard by the pandemic. Your support will ensure it continues to support those living in the Horsham District both now as we emerge from difficult times and in the future.

This year has all been about getting back to normal – and that is indeed the case for the Probus Club of Horsham Arun. Nearly 40 Club members and guests met in September for their annual BBQ at the White Horse pub in Maplehurst on a day of mixed sunshine and showers. And the Club well and truly lived up to the saying.
